I am an associate in the Corporate Department at Ropes & Gray. The thing I enjoyed most about my summer experience at Ropes & Gray was the firm’s ability to strike a perfect balance between work, learning about my future profession, and enjoying the life of a summer associate. I spent the summer getting high-quality work in the Corporate Department—I was staffed on merger and debt transactions in a substantive capacity, and received work that was identical to what a beginning associate would receive. In addition, I attended numerous training sessions that showed what corporate lawyers need to know as they progress through their careers. Coming from law school, which can be very litigation-based, this was an invaluable educational experience.
Beyond that, what impressed me most about the firm was the enthusiasm people felt about working here, and the desire everyone had to meet and socialize with the summer associates. The social events, both officially scheduled and more informal, were fantastic in terms of getting to know my future colleagues and simply having a good time. I am now a third-year associate, and I still feel the same way. I have received great work, great training, and I genuinely like the people I work with.
