Growing up as a son of Korean immigrant parents in New York City, I have always been keenly aware of the importance of diversity in my life. Seeing my parents' point of view as well as the many different and unique perspectives of my friends and colleagues has made both my personal and work life experiences all the more fulfilling. Prior to law school, I was an investment banker at a large Wall Street firm. Although working at the bank could be grueling at times, I mostly enjoyed my time there because of the camaraderie I developed with my fellow junior bankers, who had all come from various different backgrounds and experiences.

Therefore, when as 2L law student I had to choose a firm for the summer, diversity was an important factor in my decision-making process. Ropes became a clear choice for me not only because of its prestigious history, but in meeting partners and associates who had also come from various different backgrounds and experiences, I could tell that Ropes shared a similar view on diversity.

Now as an attorney at Ropes, I still feel strongly that my choice was the right one. Our firm not only understands the importance of diversity, but has actively sponsored the development of diverse communities through the Attorneys of Color (AOC) Group as well as other similar groups. The AOC Group has provided me with a great forum to meet and share my experiences with other attorneys of color, which in turn has further enhanced the development of my legal career.
