I grew up in a Chinese-speaking household and learned English by watching "Sesame Street" and "Electric Company." My hometown was a small Midwestern college town where there were very few other people who looked like us or spoke our language. Since leaving the Midwest to attend college, I have made a variety of different stops and lived in numerous places — primarily in big cities on both the West and East Coasts — before settling down in San Francisco, one of the most diverse cities in the world.
I was thrilled to join Ropes & Gray as a partner in 2008; it feels like I have now come full circle from beginning my legal career as a summer associate in Ropes & Gray's Boston office. I enjoy participating in the AOC Group because it affords me the opportunity both to contribute to the firm's efforts to achieve and maintain diversity, and also to connect with colleagues from across the firm's different offices and practice groups. On a personal note, I am very proud that my toddler son's first language is Chinese.
