I joined the litigation department at Ropes & Gray in September 2006 after a two-year federal clerkship in the Western District of Virginia. I received B.S. degrees in psychology and religious studies from Radford University in Virginia in 2001, and I attended the College of William & Mary School of Law, from which I received a J.D. in 2004. My first months at the firm have been challenging and rewarding. I have worked on a variety of matters, ranging from a Section 1983 civil rights case to an investigation of computer security issues for one of the firm's major clients.

A commitment to diversity was a key, if not the key, criteria during my job search. I looked for a firm where I could be open and feel comfortable and thereby deliver my best work product. I was open about my sexuality during the Ropes & Gray interview process. I am pleased to report that the Ropes & Gray attorneys with whom I met were extremely welcoming and made me feel at ease. If anything, they seemed to appreciate my openness as a sign of forthrightness. This level of acceptance and comfort did not wane after the interview process; rather, the attorneys with whom I have worked, through their attitudes and actions, have consistently reaffirmed in my mind Ropes & Gray's commitment to GLBT diversity.
