I joined Ropes & Gray in September 2008 and currently work in the New York office, focusing on litigation. I spent my entire 2L summer in the New York office as well. In my work, however, I have definitely benefited from Ropes' "one-firm" approach to staffing, as I consistently work with lawyers from both Boston and DC on some of the most cutting-edge litigation involving our clients. Ropes is a wonderful firm for which to work. Collegiality and friendliness are the norm, not the exception, among lawyers of all levels at Ropes. I'm always impressed by the respect and mentorship shown to me by my more senior colleagues, as well as the depth of the friendship that joins me to my associate classmates. The firm is extremely supportive of diversity, and I've never felt that I've had to hide who I am or alter my values to "fit" into any culture. It is this culture of openness, collegiality and respect that keeps me smiling on my way to work each morning. Before I was an attorney, I dedicated myself to academic pursuits. I earned an interdisciplinary PhD from the University of Chicago, where my dissertation focused on interactions between Christian and Jewish thinkers in the Renaissance. I am originally from Guatemala, though I grew up in the suburbs of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After earning my doctorate, I decided to take a break from winter and attended UC Berkeley for law school. Three years without winter was enough, and so I jumped at the chance to move back East and work in New York. When I'm not at work, I'm out enjoying the variety of experiences which New York City has to offer – and that's almost another full-time job in and of itself!
