I noticed immediately upon joining Ropes & Gray in 1997 the strong network of women that existed at the firm. I came to realize that these strong bonds were in part the result of the tremendous opportunities that Ropes & Gray offers to women and its long history of mentoring. When the most senior female attorneys at the firm — the trailblazers — speak about their early days, they always mention the firm’s strong commitment to promoting women. This commitment continues today. In 2004, the year that I became a partner, almost half of the associates elevated to partnership were women.
The Women’s Forum is one of the many ways in which women at the firm receive mentoring. As a member of the Forum, I have been able to contribute to the tradition of providing advice and insight to women at the firm. The Forum conducts a number of programs throughout the year, ranging from informal luncheons and cocktails receptions to presentations by women in leadership roles. The Forum’s initiatives seek to facilitate the career and personal growth of the firm’s female lawyers.
