Sports Law

Kevin Cuddy (Duke University School of Law '00), right, is teamed regularly with partner Dennis Coleman in advising sports clients on litigation and other matters. Recent examples include a successful litigation for a sports promoter against a sponsor and advice to a major university basketball coach on his rights under the Freedom of Information Act.

Recent highlights of the Litigation Department's sports law practice include:

  • Represented the University of Miami in connection with its decision to withdraw from the Big East Conference and join the Atlantic Coast Conference.
  • Successfully represented the Boston Red Sox in a trial over the right of a bankruptcy trustee to auction Red Sox season tickets.
  • Advise Reebok concerning its rights under the terms of a license agreement to manufacture goods with Major League Baseball team logos.
  • Won a decision allowing Boston Red Sox to utilize street abutting Fenway Park as a pedestrian mall on game days.

Chris Green (Georgetown University Law Center '99) has worked on a number of sports-related litigations, including the Big East/ACC dispute described above, and on an NCAA investigation of one of the nation's pre-eminent Division 1 basketball programs.
